:) CITIES : SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

Our Global Ambassador™ Kim B., breaks down the different areas and vibes of this town:

Downtown San Diego:
The gaslamp is where it's at if you are a young professional in your 30's... The new IVY hotel just opened up on F St. This is the same famous IVY hotel that is in LA and NY has now expanded it's horizon to the Sunny shores of San Diego. It's the new hot spot for chic lounging and getting your groove on. www.ivyhotel.com To actually stay there is a bit pricey. You are probably looking at close to /night for a standard room. There are SO many other options in the downtown area that are less expensive including the W and soon to open Hard Rock...

Stingaree is always a great bet for the same type of feel. Who's who in San Diego, great DJ's and a gorgeous interior. Inside dancing and rooftop cabana lounging: www.stingsandiego.com

Where to eat downtown? - wow - SO many options. You have all the standards - Morton's, Ruth's Chris..even Fridays! But I would check out Dussini's, Ocean Air or the Strip Club. Ocean air is seafood and the Strip Club is cook your own meat - how fun! Literally, ANY restaurant along India St. in Little Italy will impress you. But my favorite is Po Pazzo..fantastic filet.

Make sure to grab a game at Petco Park which is downtown as well. Grab a petticab and go cheer on the Padres!!

Another fun thing to do downtown is to attend a concert at the Embarcadero. Located on San Diego's beautiful waterfront walk, the Embarcadero, the open air venue at Embarcadero Marina Park South makes for a wonderful concert setting. Allow extra time to find parking due to the fact that parking at or near the venue is very limited. A free shuttle is provided for those that park at Lane Field, located on the corner of West Broadway and North Harbor Drive. Additional parking is available at Columbia and C Street in the Five Star Parking garage. It is a short walk to Lane Field to pick up the free shuttle. Another alternative is the trolley. Be sure to check out The Star of India, an 1863 built square-rigger, at the harbor before you leave. www.tickco.com

North Park is an up and coming area of San Diego that you must check out. Hillcrest, University Heights and North Park are more eclectic artsy areas of San Diego - just north and east of downtown. Make sure to walk Balboa Park and maybe bring a picnic lunch. There are many museums and brunch at the Prado is a culinary delight! www.balboapark.org

For some nightlife - check out Air Condition Lounge. target="_blank" One of the hottest new bars has a name that inspires cool thoughts. The only thing left over from when the bar was a dive called Your Place is a Plexiglas sign that reads AIR CONDITIONED. The salvaged sign inspired the new name. The exterior understates the new lounge inside. There's a deejay, a small dance floor and a retro-modern design that lends chic to the place. Plop Air Conditioned down in Los Angeles and it'd be a snob magnet. In North Park, there's still an eclectic friendliness. For now, at least

If you are younger and want to hit the beach - Pacific Beach is where it's at. Make sure to grab a breakfast burrito at Taco surf - for about 4 bucks - it will keep you full till dinnertime! Any of the casual, seedy bars/restaurants along Garnett street will do for a late afternoon cerveza. If you are staying into the night - The Tavern is always a hot spot, also on Garnett. Bar West is a new upscale bar in Pacific Beach. Although Bar West resides a few blocks from the sand, it is not your average beach bar. Bar West offers the upscale class and prestige of a club in Downtown San Diego. The chic modern décor mixed with the exclusive black leather VIP lounge mark a new era in the Pacific Beach bar vibe. Although Tower23 and Johnny V began the trend, the owners of Stingaree and Sidebar caught on quick, and took it one step further with Bar West. In addition to the nightlife scene, Bar West also offers fine dining and innovative amenities such as sand-service and beach cruiser valet. 959 Hornblend St.

Along those same lines, there is Tower 23. taken from their website: "TOWER23 Hotel is San Diego's only luxury, lifestyle hotel on the beach and one of California's most stylish and contemporary urban resorts. TOWER23 Hotel derives its name from Lifeguard Tower 23 positioned on Pacific Beach in front of the hotel, and creates a cool haven to enjoy one of America's best cities. Neo-Modernist in approach, TOWER23 Hotel is a refreshingly minimalist but playful, creative study for the urban beach resort." www.tower23hotel.com

If you are venturing to the north county beaches make sure to walk through the downtown area of Encinitas, great shops and food. Take your dog to the Del Mar dog beach along Camino Del Mar and Del Mar Heights Rd. Stick-fetching and frisbee-catching are priority here. The only drawbacks are the seasonal leash laws. Off-leash season runs October through May, and only in the area south of 15th Street and north of 29th Street. The rest of the year, leashes are required. Make sure to grab brunch at Beach Grass Cafe - amazingly good!!! beachgrasscafe.com

If you happen to be in Del Mar during the months of July and August, you must go place a bet on the ponies!! entertainment.signonsandiego.com The Del Mar Racetrack is a yearly icon. The San Diego elite and drunken misfits all converge to drink and pretend they know a thing about horse racing... It's a great time. Especially 4'oclock fridays where they have concerts right in the pavilion. Some past groups have been the Flaming Lips, Pinback, Violent Femmes and Superdiamond.
