Pointers from our Berlin Global Explorer, Cesar A.
A walk around Berlin should start with a good brunch
in any of the restaurants around the Kollwitz Platz in
Prenzlauer Berg.
After the de-rigeur Alexanderplatz and Unter den
Linden, right before the Brandenburger Gate, the best
place in town to relax, enjoy a drink and admire the
art on the walls: the Newton Bar on the
Gendarmenmarkt.
To get a feel of the underground scene that developed
right after the fall of the wall, the semi-destroyed
Tacheles is the place to go.
Take a walk on the Oranienburger Strasse and enjoy
the cafes and restaurants; not far off, in the
Strandbad-Mitte Bar, the best "Smooth Colombians" this
side of the wall are available upon request.
Back in Prenzlauer Berg head to Berlin oldest
Biergarten: Pfefferberg. Beer specialities include
the Berliner Weisse or the locally brewed "Pfefferberg
Dark Beer".
Around Berlin:
To enjoy nature the way Berliners do, go to the lakes.
You can take a river cruise from Wannsee back to the
center of Berlin.
