:) CITIES : BOGOTA, COLOMBIA

Our local Global Explorer™ Catalina M. and Andres C. took us to most of these places:

Gaira: Carrera 13 No 96-11. Owned by the the Vives brothers, of Carlos Vives fame. This place has great traditional food from the region they grew up in: the Amazon. (OK, we're kidding, but hope someone notices, they grew up in that same house and their mom cooked traditional food from their region: the Amazon).

Dar Papaya: Great fusion restaurant in the continuously growing 'Zona G' area: Calle 69A # 4 -78). Out of control ceviches and martinis.

La Cigale: One of the best wine selections we've found in Bogota, although heavy on the French side -nobody is perfect. Great for an intimate dinner upstairs. Calle 69A No. 4 -93

Salto del Angel: Amazing restaurant and party place in the ever popular Parque de la 93. Great place to have dinner and then dance 'till close time. Never have we been disappointed with the talent there.

Leo Cava y Cocina: We've met Leo, we've had lunch there. Still not sure why Condé Nast recently named it one of the best 100 restaurants in the world. However, it is still a good comfortable spot, worthy of the visit, especially with their new bar area.

Andres Carne de Res: We've been going there since they only had four tables. No visit to Bogota is complete without a visit to this entertainment/dining mecca: www.andrescarnederes.com Hellogoodtimes Guaranteed.

Museo del Oro: Probably the world's best selection of gold artifacts from the pre-Columbian era: www.banrep.gov.co

Museo Militar: The country's most impressive collection of weapons in Colombia. Fact. Donated mostly by Fernando Ospina Hernandez, at one point the country's largest private gun collector.

Botero Museum: The most comprehensive collection of Colombia's most well known artist housed adjacent to the Bank of the Republic collection: www.lablaa.org

Monserrate: World class cities have one spot that defines them, San Francisco has the Golden Gate Bridge, Rome the Coliseum, Sydney the Opera House, Fresno has a Hardees and Bogota has this church built 3,190 m above sea level (for those of you still on some other system, close to 10,500 ft.). In recent years, there have been stories of people surviving the 'Great Monserrate Death March': Mike M. and John K. (Mike is still complaining about his Prada loafers being ruined that day).

Salt Cathedral in Zipaquira: http://www.catedraldesal.gov.co/ An amazing underground cathedral sculped inside a salt mine. Worth the trip if you want to visit the outskirts of Bogota.
